More about MathWorks Math Modeling (M3 Challenge)
This is an internet-based challenge where you have to register your team to this particular challenge online. During this challenge, you are posed with different math-related, specifically real-world problems.
Before logging in during the challenge weekend, the participants are generally unaware of all these problems. The most important thing to notice here is that no participation or registration fees are involved in the M3 Challenge.
According to the team registration rules of the M3 Challenge teams from the United States of America, England, and Wales can take part. If you are registering from the U.S., which may include all American territories and DoDEA schools.
You can register up to two teams, including three to five junior and/or senior students. In case you are registering your teams from England and Wales, you can also enter up to two teams which may consist of three to five sixth-form students.
The age bracket for these students is between 16-19. There is a special provision for homeschooled and cyberschool students. If you fall in the same age bracket and academics, teams can register for the M3 Challenge.
The winners of this challenge will get a handsome scholarship amount of $100,000 or over £75,000. A total of $1.75 million has been distributed as awarded through this challenge by the end of 2022.

Eligibility of MathWorks Math Modeling (M3 Challenge)
- If we talk about the eligibility of the M3 Challenge, teams can register from the United States of America, England, and Wales. Team USA included all American territories and DoDEA schools. A maximum of up to two teams which may include three to five junior or senior students. In case you are registering your teams from England and Wales, you can also enter up to two teams which may consist of three to five sixth-form students. The age bracket for these students is between 16-19.
- If we talk about per-school registrations, a maximum of two team teams may include three to five students and one teacher or coach.
- For this competition, International and exchange students can also take part if they are officially enrolled at an eligible school during the time of registration and the completion of the challenge.
- You can make a team with other homeschooled students if you are a homeschooled student. For this, all the students who are forming the team must reside in the same state or county. The students must be high school juniors, seniors or sixth-form students. The age limit for being a team member is between 16-19. For successfully participating in the challenge, a signed Homeschool Affidavit is required for each student.
- The same goes for cyber school students; they can form a team with other students. All the students participating in the challenge must be getting or about to get a diploma from a cyber school. This student should be from U.S., England or Wales. Another clause says that the student must be a high school junior and senior or sixth form level. Cyber school Affidavit is required for each student.
- Online high schools and other hybrid organizations can also take part in the challenge. The students who want to take part in the challenge must be from U.S., England, or Wales. For this, you need to be an 11th and 12th grader.

Important Dates to Remember for MathWorks Math Modeling (M3 Challenge)
- In November 2022, registration for the teams was open.
- The last date for registration is 24 February 2023.
- During March 3-6, 2023, challenge weekend will be organised.
- Parental/guardian consent should be submitted during the challenge weekend by logging in to the M3 Challenge website.
- By March 7, 2023, you can make changes to the team record.
- By March 10, 2023, the teacher or coach should submit the Authenticity Certification.
- Between 9-18 March 2023, Triage judging is done.
- On 22 March 2023, teams who made it through Triage judging will be notified.
- Between 23-26 March 2023, contention judging activities are done.
- On 29 March 2023, all the semi-finalists, finalists, honorable mention, and technical computing teams are notified.
- On 24 April 2023, confirmation and presentation will be done.
